Apprenticeship

Since our goal is to mentor church planters and church-planting pastors, we realize that an intensive apprenticeship program is critical. The rigours of academic life will be equally matched by hands-on training in the context of the local church. Head knowledge must be matched with a passionate heart and effective hands-on ministry. We believe in the autonomy and authority of the local church. Therefore every student will serve in a local church under the authority of its leadership.

The apprenticeship will last for the duration of the student's study at the college. Instruction at the college will proceed on a Monday through Thursday schedule so that the student can be involved in ministry Friday through Sunday.

The apprenticeship will be designed in consultation with the host pastor, an apprenticeship supervisor from the college, and the student involved. A detailed apprenticeship program will be structured that includes expectations, goals, peformance standards, ect. The student will regularly meet with both the host pastor and the college apprenticeship supervisor. These meetings are for the purpose of ensuring the integrity of the apprenticeship program and to provide regular feedback to the student regarding their progress.

The purpose of the apprenticeship program is to prepare individuals for ministry. As a result the program will include the following:

  • Identification of spiritual gifts, development, and application in the local church
  • Identification of pesonal strengths and development for ministry
  • Identification of personal weakness and how this could potentially inhibit ministry
  • Participation in the formation, development, and leadership of ministry teams
